Vol. 496 No. 3

Written Answers. - Telecommunications Masts.

Thomas P. Broughan

Question:

46 Mr. Broughan asked the Minister for Public Enterprise if she will extend the provisions of the interconnection regulations in relation to the Bill she is preparing; when she will make it mandatory for mobile phone companies to share their telecommunication masts rather than supporting the principle; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [22650/98]

The Bill to which the Deputy refers is the Telecommunications (Infrastructure) Bill which is currently being drafted in my Department.

As I have stated before, I propose to incorporate in the Bill the facility sharing provisions which are included in the interconnection regulations and to extend those provisions to certain other facilities. However, the final decision on the contents of the Bill will be made in consultation with my Cabinet colleagues. I hope to be in a position to publish the Bill during the current Dáil session.
