Vol. 496 No. 4

Written Answers. - Liquor Licences.

Rory O'Hanlon

Question:

258 Dr. O'Hanlon asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if he will amend the licensing laws to change the law on six day licences; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [23167/98]

Legislation to allow for conversion of six day licences to seven day licences is among the large number of recommendations made by the Sub-Committee of the Oireacthtas Joint Committee on Justice, Equality and Women's Rights in its report of 18 June 1998 on a review of liquor licensing. The Deputy will be aware that my Department invited, by way of advertisements placed in the national and local press on 4 August 1998 comments on the report. The closing date for such contributions was 30 September 1998. In excess of 60 submissions have been received, including a number of submissions relating to the law on six day licences.

The submissions are in the course of being examined as part of the consultative process which 1 engaged in with a view to careful and indepth examination of the question of legislation to amend our liquor licensing laws.
