Vol. 496 No. 6

Written Answers - Sea Angling.

Michael Finucane

Question:

127 Mr. Finucane asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources if his attention has been drawn to the concerns of sea angling clubs in relation to over fishing by inshore netsmen; his views on their suggestion regarding a zone restricted to 200 yards to be used exclusively for sea angling; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [23843/98]

My Department is undertaking, in conjunction with BIM, a comprehensive strategic review of inshore fisheries, including stock conservation and management issues. The relationship between sea angling and commercial inshore fishing and the balancing of respective interests and needs of both components will be addressed in that context.
