Vol. 496 No. 6

Written Answers - Citizenship Applications.

Seán Haughey

Question:

131 Mr. Haughey asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs if an application for post nuptial citizenship, which was made by a person (details supplied) in South Africa to the embassy in Pretoria on 19 May 1998 following the submission by her of further documentation requested, will be processed immediately; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [23784/98]

A declaration sworn by this person accepting Irish citizenship as her post-nuptial citizenship, has been considered by the Department of Foreign Affairs.

Two queries relating to the documentation which accompanied the declaration were conveyed to the embassy in Pretoria. The declarant was provided further documentation, which is being transferred to the Department by diplomatic mail. On receipt of this material, the declarant's file will be reassessed and, if it is in order, the declaration will be passed to the Department of Justice, Equality and Law Reform for formal acceptance.
