Vol. 496 No. 6

Written Answers - Computer Programmes.

Deirdre Clune

Question:

349 Ms Clune asked the Minister for Social, Community and Family Affairs the arrangements, if any, he has put in place in his Department to offset any adverse effects of the millennium bug; the effects the millennium bug will have; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [23525/98]

My Department carried out early in 1997 a formal assessment of the potential impact of the millennium bug on its computer systems and on equipment containing embedded computer chips.

Much of the necessary work has now been done to ensure that all components likely to be affected by the date change are tested and, if necessary, fixed or replaced, in good time and the Department is on target to complete the "Year 2000" project by mid-1999.
