Vol. 496 No. 6

Written Answers - Social Welfare Benefits.

Michael Ring

Question:

352 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Social, Community and Family Affairs the secondary benefits a person on the back to work scheme is allowed to retain; and the guidelines or rulings for this. [23585/98]

An important feature of the back to work allowance scheme is that participants are allowed to retain their secondary benefits at their existing levels for the three years they are receiving the allowance, provided that the combination of weekly household income and the allowance is less than £250.

The following are the secondary benefits involved: medical card, fuel allowance, back to school footwear and clothing allowance, Christmas bonus, differential rent, butter vouchers, rent allowance or mortgage subsidy. Rent allowance-mortgage subsidy is subject to a separate maximum payment of £250 per month.
