Written Answers - Special Areas of Conservation.

Enda Kenny

Question:

367 Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands the position in relation to the revised REP scheme package for special areas of conservation; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [23579/98]

The new REP scheme package announced by the Minister for Agriculture and Food provides for the following payments to farmers in SACs: a) £80 per acre for the first 100 acres; b) £8 per acre for the next 100 acres; and c) £6 per acre for the next 100 acres.

The new payments are available to any farmer opting to participate in the scheme and to farmers who are already participants. Application forms for the scheme may be obtained from local offices of the Department of Agriculture and Food, which administers the scheme.
