Vol. 496 No. 6

Written Answers - Road Traffic Offences.

Enda Kenny

Question:

376 Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if he will set up a consumer hotline to alert gardaí to instances where grossly excessive speeding and reckless driving are witnessed by other road users; his views on this proposal; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [23423/98]

I have been informed by the Garda authorities that they have no plans to set up a consumer hotline as proposed by the Deputy. There is, of course, already in existence a nationwide 999 system which I understand is used by members of the public to report such instances as referred to by the Deputy.
