Vol. 496 No. 6

Written Answers - Road Traffic Offences.

Seymour Crawford

Question:

387 Mr. Crawford asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the percentage of all speeding tickets issued in 30 and 40 mile per hour zones; the percentage of road deaths which occur inside 30 and 40 mile per hour zones; and the percentage of road deaths which occur on national primary and national secondary roads. [23740/98]

I have been informed by the Garda authorities that statistics in relation to the percentage of all speeding tickets issued in 30 and 40 mile per hour zones are not compiled in such a way as to readily provide the details sought by the Deputy.

With regard to road death statistics, details in relation to all road accidents reported to the Garda authorities are supplied by the Garda to the National Roads Authority, St Martin's House, Waterloo Road, Dublin 4. A detailed report on road accidents entitled "Road Accident Facts" is prepared and published by that Authority. The most recent report, which is in respect of 1996, was published in October 1997 and is directly available from the authority (Telephone, (01) 6602511, Fax (01) 668009.
