Vol. 496 No. 6

Written Answers - Institutes of Technology.

Enda Kenny

Question:

413 Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for Education and Science if a further £1 million will be made available to the Mayo and Galway Institute of Technology, Castlebar in 1999; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [23542/98]

In May 1998, my Department conveyed approval to the authorities of the Galway-Mayo Institute of Technology to proceed with the third phase of the development of the Castlebar campus, and has set aside £1.3 million capital funding for this purpose.

I understand from the institute that the work will be undertaken during the summer of 1999.

In July 1998, in order to meet the minimum accommodation requirements of the campus for September 1998, my Department approved the award of a building contract of over £170,000 by the Institute for the provision of two laboratories and two classrooms.
