Written Answers - Schools Building Projects.

Paul Connaughton

Question:

447 Mr. Connaughton asked the Minister for Education and Science the remaining steps to be taken in the relocation of the Mercy secondary school, Ballinasloe, County Galway, to a site on Garbally grounds; when the project will go to tender; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [23868/98]

Representatives of Scoil Mhuire, Ballinasloe, County Galway are involved in negotiations with the local authority and Garbally college regarding the location of the new building for the Mercy secondary school.

The precise location of the school on the Garbally property has not yet been finalised for various reasons but mainly because of technical requirements arising from the outline planning application.

Until the difficulties currently being encountered are resolved, the architectural design of the school cannot be progressed and the question of proceeding to tender does not arise. However, it is intended that this project will proceed speedily through the architectural design process once the site difficulties have been overcome.

Jimmy Deenihan

Question:

448 Mr. Deenihan asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will provide the necessary finance in the Estimates to ensure that the proposed extension to St. Michael's college, Listowel, County Kerry, is carried out. [23869/98]

The architectural planning for the proposed extension to St. Michael's college, Listowel, County Kerry, is proceeding. The detailed design and the contract documents, stage 4-5, have been examined, however, a number of amendments are considered necessary.

The school authorities have been advised of the situation and as soon as the revised documents are received and found to be satisfactory, the question of inviting tenders will be considered in the light of available resources.
