A preliminary meeting to discuss progress on our preparations for the next national development plan and arrangements for the next round of Structural Funds generally was held on 8 October 1998 between officials of my Department and the European Commission. The main implementing Departments for current structural fund programmes also attended. Informal contact between my Department and the European Commission will be maintained leading up to finalisation of the NDP and its presentation to the Commission.
