Vol. 496 No. 6

Written Answers - Partnership 2000.

Michael D. Higgins

Question:

74 Mr. M. Higgins asked the Minister for Finance the working groups which have been set up pursuant to Partnership 2000; the progress, if any, made in respect of the work programme undertaken by each group; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [23708/98]

There are a number of working groups established under the aegis of Partnership 2000. The term working group is taken to mean a group which is examining a specific area and a list of the main groups follows.

The working group on tax credits is the only one which is chaired by my Department. It was set up in July 1997 and is examining the issue of standard rating and tax credits. This group produced its report last January and is engaged in a further examination of the policy and practical issues associated with the introduction of a tax credits system.
