Vol. 496 No. 6

Written Answers - Tax Incentives.

Olivia Mitchell

Question:

80 Ms O. Mitchell asked the Minister for Finance if he will introduce a tax regime which encourages and facilitates the use of clean fuel vehicles and cleaner fuels by both private and public service vehicles. [23679/98]

Deputies will appreciate it would not be appropriate for me to comment on any taxation proposals in the run up to the forthcoming budget. In considering the case for a tax regime which encourages the use of so called clean fuel vehicles and cleaner fuels, I must have regard to the need to raise revenue and to the relevant EU directives which lay down certain harmonised minimum rates for products subject to excise duties.
