Vol. 496 No. 6

Question:

81 Mr. Carey asked the Minister for Finance the plans, if any he has to apply DIRT to deposits in credit unions; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [23703/98]

Written Answers - Tax Proposals.

Brendan Howlin

Question:

82 Mr. Howlin asked the Minister for Finance the conclusion of his Department's working group on green taxation established by the previous Government; whether its recommendations have been considered by the Government; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [19271/98]

The working group to which the Deputy refers was set up following the budget of 23 January 1996 and its remit is to examine the strategic impact of taxation on environmental policy. The group prepared a report which was discussed by the Taxation Strategy Group in the context of the preparations for the forthcoming budget. The Deputy will appreciate it would not be appropriate for me to comment on taxation proposals in advance of that budget.
