Vol. 496 No. 6

Written Answers - Trade Advisory Forum.

David Stanton

Question:

111 Mr. Stanton asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment the role and composition of the trade advisory forum; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [23942/98]

The trade advisory forum was established by the then Government in July 1996 to act as an advisory and consultative body to the Government on trade matters, in so far as they relate to Irish exports.

The forum is chaired by me as Minister with direct responsibility for trade and I have reviewed its mandate and membership in order to ensure that it acts as an effective mechanism for policy advice to Government on strategic issues affecting Irish trade. A full list of the membership is attached at Appendix 1. It includes representatives of relevant Departments, State agencies, along with exporters themselves, representative bodies of exporters, the trade union movement, farmers and non-governmental organisations.
