Question:

137 Ms Clune asked the Minister for Finance the number from which second hand cars imported from other countries from which in the past three years; the countries from which these cars originated; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [23988/98]

I am informed by the Revenue Commissioners that the net number of second-hand cars registered in the State over the last three years is as follows: 1996 — 41,530; 1997 — 37,444; 1998 (to end October) — 31,708.

The following is a breakdown, by country, of previous registration declared on registration for tax purposes:
