Vol. 497 No. 1

Written Answers. - National Accreditation Committee.

Róisín Shortall

Question:

58 Ms Shortall asked the Minister for Health and Children the plans, if any, he has to ensure that the national accreditation committee certification of ESF funded disability training will be maintained when the National Rehabilitation Board ceases operation at the end of 1998; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [24300/98]

The NAC was established by NRB in June 1996 for a three year term of office as an independent accrediting body for the Standard for Vocational Training S1/95. It accredits centres funded under the current Operational Programme for Human Resource Development 1994-1999. The NAC is chaired by Professor Joyce O'Connor, President of the National College of Ireland and Chairperson of the National Council for Vocational Awards, and NRB provides the secretariat. It is proposed that the NAC will continue to do its business for the period of the Operational Programme notwithstanding the reconfiguration of institutional responsibility for services for people with disabilities following the Government's decision of 27 July, 1998 to implement the establishment group's report "Building a Future Together".
