Question:

91 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the number of private sites subsidised by his Department and made available in each local authority area in the past 12 months; the number of housing starts on these sites; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [24285/98]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 90 and 91 together.

I refer to the reply to Questions Nos. 11 and 85 on today's Order Paper.

Details of activity by local authorities including Kildare County Council under the low cost housing sites scheme including information on sites sold, sites approved for sale, sites identified for sale and sites for which applications were received, are published in my Department's housing statistics bulletins, copies of which are available in the Oireachtas Library.

The administration of the scheme is a matter for individual local authorities and it is primarily a matter for authorities to decide on the most appropriate use of their land to meet housing need. It is understood that Kildare County Council advertised low cost sites at Celbridge and Leixlip last September.
