118 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Education and Science the number of schools and their enrolment in County Tipperary which do not have the service of a remedial teacher at primary and secondary levels; the number of schools which have made application to his Department for additional remedial resources; and the number of remedial teachers allocated to Tipperary in the 1998 allocation of 60 remedial teachers nationally. A total of 61 primary schools in County Tipperary do not currently have access to a remedial service. The schools in question have an enrolment of 3,751.

A total of 52 primary schools and five second-level schools have applied to my Department for a remedial service.

Of the 60 additional remedial teacher posts allocated to primary schools with effect from September 1998, one post was allocated on a shared basis to four schools in County Tipperary.

There are currently eight resource teaching posts, three concessionary teaching posts under the disadvantaged areas scheme and one home school liaison post allocated to primary schools in County Tipperary.
