Vol. 497 No. 2

Written Answers - Health Centres.

John Perry

Question:

252 Mr. Perry asked the Minister for Health and Children the plans, if any, for additional funding for primary care in the Sligo and Leitrim region. [24810/98]

The provision of health centres in the Sligo and Leitrim region is, in the first instance, a matter for the North-Western Health Board. Earlier this year I received a submission from each health board setting out its priorities for funding under the 1998 health centre capital development programme. Grants under this programme were made in accordance with each health board's priorities. A grant of £66,000 was made in respect of the construction of a new primary care and day care centre at Easkey, County Sligo. I understand that this project is now at completion stage.

Financial support from my Department for other projects in the Sligo and Leitrim region will be considered in 1999 in the context of the priority which the North-Western Health Board attaches to them, the available capital resources and the competing demands on those resources.
