Vol. 497 No. 2

Written Answers - Sports Capital Programme.

Jimmy Deenihan

Question:

353 Mr. Deenihan asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation when application forms for the next national lottery allocation will be available to sporting organisations; if a new format is being proposed for the application of national lottery funds to sporting organisations and clubs; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [24326/98]

Willie Penrose

Question:

360 Mr. Penrose asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation when the new application forms will be issued for community groups who wish to apply for grants under the recreational facilities scheme; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [24802/98]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 353 and 360 together.

The sports capital programme is currently under review by my Department. When the review is completed, which I expect will be towards the end of 1998, details of the revised schemes will be widely publicised and it will be open to clubs and organisations to apply for funding under the new schemes. Pending the outcome of the review, I am not in a position to say what changes, if any, will be made to the terms and conditions of the existing programme.

John McGuinness

Question:

354 Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation if all documentation has been received by his Department from a club (details supplied) in County Kilkenny; and, if so, when the grant will be paid. [24327/98]

A grant of £5,000 was allocated to the club in 1997 under the sports capital programme. In line with standard procedures, payment of the grant is subject to the club providing specific documentation and information confirming that the development complies with the terms and conditions of the programme. My Department wrote to the club in March 1998 requesting the outstanding documentation and when this is submitted and found to be in order, payment of the grant will be made.

John McGuinness

Question:

355 Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation when a grant will be paid to a club (details supplied) in County Kilkenny; and if all documentation has been received by his Department. [24328/98]

A grant of £8,000 was allocated to the club in 1998 under the sports capital programme. In line with standard procedures, payment of the grant is subject to the club providing specific documentation and information confirming that the development complies with the terms and conditions of the programme. The club was advised in April 1998 of the documentation required in order for payment of the grant to be made. However, none of the information has been submitted to date and my Department recently wrote to the club again advising it of what information is required. When this is submitted and found to be in order, payment of the grant will be made.

John McGuinness

Question:

356 Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation the status of an application for funding for the Carlow and Graiguecullen swimming pool project; when funds will be made available for this project; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [24427/98]

In 1998 grants under the sports capital programme were allocated earlier this year and all funds have now been committed to a number of projects around the country. The committee was advised in April 1998 and again in August 1998 that they are not among the projects approved for grant aid in 1998.

However, the sports capital programme is currently being reviewed by my Department. When the review is completed, which I expect will be towards the end of 1998, details of the new schemes will be widely publicised and it will then be open to clubs and organisations to apply for funding under the new programme.

Deirdre Clune

Question:

357 Ms Clune asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation the form of grant aid available from his Department for a brass band (details supplied) in County Cork; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [24628/98]

In 1998 grants under the sports capital programme were allocated earlier this year and all funds have now been committed to a number of projects around the country.

However, the sports capital programme is currently being reviewed by my Department. When the review is completed, which I expect will be towards the end of 1998, details of the new schemes will be widely publicised and it will then be open to clubs and organisations to apply for funding under the new programme.
