Vol. 497 No. 2

Written Answers - Music Teachers.

Pat Rabbitte

Question:

410 Mr. Rabbitte asked the Minister for Education and Science if his attention has been drawn to the threat of industrial action by music teachers at Kylemore College, Ballyfermot, Dublin 10, resulting from the failure to make their positions full-time permanent posts; the steps, if any, being taken to have these posts converted as they fulfil the requirement for conversion set out in the PCW; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [24761/98]

The PCW agreement on the pay and conditions of teachers did not provide for the conversion of temporary or part-time posts held by music teachers to permanent posts. My Department proposes to have further discussions with the City of Dublin VEC and the teacher union in the very near future with regard to the permanent appointment of music teachers in Kylemore College.
