Vol. 497 No. 2

Written Answers - Visa Applications.

John McGuinness

Question:

65 Mr. McGuinness asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment if her Department will examine an application from a hotel for a work visa for a person (details supplied) in County Laois; if her attention has been drawn to the fact that she acted in good faith in relation to her present position and checked this information with a local garda station but has been informed that this information was incorrect and now needs to rectify her situation immediately. [24426/98]

My information is that the person concerned is currently in this country on a working holiday visa issued by the Irish Embassy in Canberra.

Such visas are issued on the strict understanding that the person concerned is simply visiting this country and will return to their own country when their holiday in Ireland is finished. Accordingly applications for work permits cannot be considered while they are here on holiday.

I am not aware of what information might have been supplied by a local garda and any such information would be a matter for the Garda authorities and the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform.
