Vol. 497 No. 2

Written Answers - Inland Fisheries.

Gerry Reynolds

Question:

83 Mr. G. Reynolds asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources if his Department will provide funding to the Easkey river development association to help purchase the Fortland estate at Easkey, County Sligo, which has the potential to be one of the prime spate rivers for salmon and sea trout. [24794/98]

The acquisition of certain strategic sport fisheries to enable their development and use by tourist anglers is one of the eligible areas under the tourism angling measure (TAM) of the operational programme for tourism. Any funding proposals for a project in relation to the Easkey River should therefore be submitted by the development association to the Central Fisheries Board which administers TAM for consideration.
