Question:

97 Mr. Stanton asked the Minister for Public Enterprise the title, role and composition of all task forces, review groups, advisory bodies and any other agencies operating under the aegis of her Department; the date of establishment of each body; and the reports, if any, published by each group in the past 12 months. [24879/98]

Details of advisory groups and task forces operating under the aegis of my Department are detailed in the following schedule.

There have been no reports published by these groups in the past 12 months apart from the report of the advisory committee on telecommunications which was published on 18 November 1998.

1. GSI Consultative committee

Twenty-one people who represent a wide range of client groups who are experts in the field of GSI operation.

April 1993

To advise GSM Management in regard to its strategy and operation.

2. Energy Advisory Board (a non- statutory advisory committee of technical experts in the energy conservation field).

Representation from Department of Public Enterprise, Bord na Móna, Bord Gáis Éireann, ESB, Irish National Petroleum Corporation, Office of Public Works, IBEC, ATGWU, a nominee of the Minister of State at the Department of Public Enterprise to represent the general body of energy consumers.

September 1994

To strengthen co-operation between the Organisations active in the Energy Sector and in the broader economy with the objective of making the greatest possible contribution to the National Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Programmes.

3. Ad hoc review group for the Postal Sector.

Representatives from Department of Public Enterprise, An Post and the Irish Association of International Express Carriers.

June 1997

To make recommendations as to the strategic direction the Irish postal sector should take over the next 5-7 years.

4. Gas Demand Study Group.

Representatives of Department of Public Enterprise and Bord Gáis Éireann.

November 1997

To forecast consumer demand in Ireland for natural gas to the Year 2025 and to determine the optimal long-term transmission infrastructure necessary to cater for the projected demand.

5. Road Haulage Review Group.

Representatives from Department of Public Enterprise, Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment, Irish Business Employees Confederation (IBEC), Forfás and Bodies associated with the road freight sector.

December 1997.

To oversee a strategic review of the Irish Road Haulage Sector.

6. Ministerial Committee on Nuclear Safety.

Ministerial representation from six Departments along with Officials. Representation from the Attorney General's Office and from the Radiological Protection Institute of Ireland.

5 February 1998.

To examine and review all matters relating to Nuclear Safety and Radiological Protection including the on-going campaign against Sellafield.

7. Equality Audit Review Group.

Officials of the Department of Public Enterprise along with a representative of the Employment Equality Agency.

13 May 1998.

To consider and evaluate the audits from bodies under the aegis of the Minister and to make recommendations on conclusions drawn from these deliberations.

8. Advisory Committee on Telecommunications.

Experts in the field of Telecommunications including the Internet, Information Society along with experts in other fields such as overseas marketing, strategic and international studies, information infrastructures, the private telecommunications sectors and a representative from the Department of Public Enterprise and Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment.

To advise the Minister for Public Enterprise on a strategy to position Ireland as a key global centre in telecommunications, the internet and electronic commerce.

9. Luas Task Force.

An independent Chairman and a number of independent experts from the Commercial Sector along with a representative of the Department of Public Enterprise and an ICTU representative.

November 1998.

To oversee planning and implementation of the expanded Luas system.

10. High Level Task Force on Rail Safety.

Representatives of Department of Public Enterprise, Department of Finance, Córas Iompair Éireann and Iarnród Éireann.

November 1998.

To prioritise recommendations and address the safety issues identified in the consultancy report commissioned by the Minister for Public Enterprise and published in November 1998.
