Written Answers - Law and Order.

Deirdre Clune

Question:

105 Ms Clune asked the Minister for Defence the preparations, if any, under way in the Defence Forces for the role they may play in emergency plans following possible civil disruption triggered by the millennium bug; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [24804/98]

Primary responsibility for the maintenance of law and order rests with the Garda Síochána. The Defence Forces, pursuant to their role of rendering aid to the civil power, will assist the Garda when requested, in any given situation.
