Written Answers - Tourism Promotion.

Bernard Allen

Question:

180 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation the meetings, if any, he has had with the Irish-United States Economic Advisory Board recently; and, if so, the discussions which took place in relation to tourism and sport. [25092/98]

I met with the delegation from the Ireland-America Economic Advisory Board during their visit to Ireland between 18 and 22 October. The delegation also had a wide ranging discussion with my most senior officials and advisers and representatives of Bord Fáilte. Among the issues discussed were the current marketing challenges facing Irish tourism in the US, access to potential new markets on the US west coast, the current state of the industry here, the potential for developing a greater level of tourist flows on a North-South basis and potential opportunities to tap into the ethnic market in the US.
