Vol. 497 No. 4

Written Answers - School Staffing.

Richard Bruton

Question:

192 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Education and Science if the minimum 65 teacher posts to back the programme announced on 5 November 1998 will be freshly recruited by his Department or provided by the population dividend; and if schools will be immediately able to avail of this extra teaching resource for children affected. [25294/98]

Allocations arising from the new initiative which I announced on 5 November are automatic entitlements and do not form part of the demographic dividend.

All applications for additional special teaching support are being considered by my Department in the context of the new initiative. Schools will be informed of the outcome of their applications for special support teaching as soon as their applications have been processed.
