Vol. 497 No. 4

Written Answers - Deportation Orders.

Breeda Moynihan-Cronin

Question:

68 Mrs. B. Moynihan-Cronin asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the number of deportations for each month of 1998; the basis on which these deportations were made; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [25171/98]

The number of deportations made for each month of 1998 is as follows: January 1998, one; February 1998, two; March 1998, 13; April 1998, four; May 1998, one; June 1998, nil; July 1998, 11; August 1998, three; September 1998, nine; October 1998, nine; and up to 20 November 1998, two.

The basis for these deportations is paragraph (1) of Article 13 of the Aliens Order, 1946, (Statutory Rules and Orders, No. 395 of 1946), which provides that I may, if I deem it to be conducive to the public good, make orders requiring non-nationals to leave and remain thereafter out of the State.
