Vol. 497 No. 5

Written Answers - Cancer Treatment Services.

Róisín Shortall

Question:

223 Ms Shortall asked the Minister for Health and Children if he will publish the recommendations which he recently received from the National Cancer Forum; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [25664/98]

I assume the Deputy is referring to the advice sought from the National Cancer Forum in relation to diagnostic and treatment services for paediatric oncology. I have also received recommendations from the forum regarding the organisation of cancer services in the Midland Health Board area and on the evaluation of screening programmes.

I received the advice of the forum regarding paediatric oncology recently. The advice and recommendations are useful and will facilitate the development of services in a way that best ensures quality services for patients. I will be writing shortly to the hospitals which provide paediatric oncology services and will keep the Deputy informed of developments.
