Vol. 497 No. 5

Written Answers - Schools Building Projects.

John McGuinness

Question:

372 Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for Education and Science the status of an application for a new school at Drumphea, County Carlow; and if he will arrange a meeting with the school management and parents to accommodate an input from all groups in the planning process. [25754/98]

I have approved the project to provide a new school at Drumphea to proceed to architectural planning. My Department is currently in the process of appointing a design team for the project.

Architectural planning of the school will be a consultative process and school management will be given an opportunity to comment on an outline sketch scheme for the new school. At that stage officials of my Department's building unit will be available to meet with the school, if necessary, to discuss the school design.

Question:

373 Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for Education and Science the position of an application for funding for St. Kieran's College, Kilkenny; and if full details of the work to be carried out in the college have been received by his Department. [25755/98]

My Department is currently considering two applications for grant assistance from St. Kieran's College, Kilkenny. An application to develop the sporting facilities at the school is currently being considered in the context of capital available for post-primary building purposes generally.

An application to upgrade the toilet facilities and classroom accommodation was received by my Department this week. This application is being technically evaluated at present.
