Question:

164 Mr. McDowell asked the Minister for Defence further to Parliamentary Question No. 82 of 11 November 1998, the reason no other body or group with an interest in the future management of the Curragh was invited to serve on the interdepartmental task force on the Curragh of Kildare. [27663/98]

Question:

165 Mr. McDowell asked the Minister for Defence further to Parliamentary Question 82 of 11 November 1998, the progress, if any, made to date by the interdepartmental task force on the Curragh; when it is expected that this report will be completed and published; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [27664/98]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 164 and 165 together.

The primary function of the task force is to report and make recommendations on the future management and development of the Curragh and all departmental and State agencies with an interest in the area were invited to serve on the task force. It would not have been practicable to invite all parties with an interest in the Curragh to serve on the task force. However, advertisements seeking submissions to the task force were placed in local and national newspapers and, to date, almost 30 submissions have been received. The task force has met so far on eight occasions and is on schedule to report to me before the end of March 1999, as originally required.
