Question:

404 Mr. Quinn asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation the extent of his Department's preparedness for the year 2000 problem, including agencies for which he is responsible; the amount of money contained in this year's Departmental Estimates for dealing with the problem; the number of additional staff taken on to assist year 2000 work including any outside consultants involved; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Work to ensure that my Department is year 2000 compliant commenced earlier this year and is due for completion shortly, within existing resources.

The position with regard to agencies under my remit is as follows:

Bord Fáilte

Bord Fáilte has carried out a detailed survey of all its office systems and computer systems and it has indicated that it will be year 2000 compliant by 31 March 1999.

CERT

CERT has set up an internal task group to ensure that year 2000 issues are dealt with effectively and the organisation expects to be year 2000 compliant by mid 1999.

ADM

ADM has employed an additional member of staff specifically for year 2000 compliance work. In addition an outside consultant will be employed to ensure all systems are compliant by mid 1999.
