Vol. 498 No. 4

Written Answers. - Leaving Certificate Examination.

Brian O'Shea

Question:

427 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for Education and Science the special consideration, if any, he will give to a person (details supplied) in County Dublin in relation to his 1999 leaving certificate; and if he will make a statement on the matter [27499/98]

The issue raised in the application for special arrangements in relation to the person concerned will be catered for within my Department's overall policy approach to issues which arise regarding the presentation of material for examination by some students. This means that examiners who receive this candidate's work will be under instruction to mark it reliably in accordance with the marking scheme for the subject concerned so as to ensure that full credit is given for all work done. Should an examiner encounter a difficulty in ensuring that full credit is given for all work done he-she is further instructed as a matter of policy to refer the work to an advising examiner for his-her attention and consideration.

In this way my Department ensures that every effort is made to ensure full justice for the candidate during the marking process.
