Question:

441 Mr. Crawford asked the Minister for Education and Science when a new school will be built for St. Michael's, Corcaghan, County Monaghan; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [27673/98]

Architectural planning for a new school for St. Michael's, Corcaghan, is being undertaken by the school's own design team. The school board forwarded proposed plans to my Department for consideration. My Department has sought additional information from the school and a response is awaited. At this stage it is premature to state when construction will commence.

Proposed tender documentation for the project at Deravoy national school has been received by my Department for approval. I will take a decision on the timing of the tender process in light of available funds and competing priorities.

Question:

443 Mr. Crawford asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will provide the necessary funding to allow the restructuring of Clontibret primary school, County Monaghan, to go ahead in 1999; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [27675/98]

Due to the small size of the site at the existing school in Clontibret, it has been decided that it would be preferable to build a new school on a new site.

The school has recently identified a site and arrangements are being made for my Department's architect to inspect this site and assess its suitability.

In the meantime, it is proposed to proceed with necessary urgent repairs at the existing school in order to allow it to remain in operation until a new school can be completed.
The board of management have been informed of this decision and the necessary works will be organised by the Office of Public Works.

Question:

444 Mr. Crawford asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will provide the necessary funding to allow the restructuring of Knockconnion national school, Ballyoisín, Emyvale, County Monaghan, to go ahead in 1999; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [27676/98]

The board of management of this school has identified a site for its proposed new three classroom school.

A member of my Department's technical staff has inspected this site and has outlined a number of concerns which need to be addressed before the site can be deemed suitable. The school has been asked to investigate these issues.

At this early stage it is not possible for me to state when this project is expected to commence.

Question:

445 Mr. Crawford asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will provide the necessary funding to allow the restructuring of St. Oliver's primary school, Loughmourne, Castleblaney, County Monaghan, to go ahead in 1999; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [27683/98]

An application has been received from St. Oliver's primary school, Loughmore, Castleblayney for refurbishment works. The scope of the work involved is currently being assessed. When this assessment is complete, my Department will be in a position to recommend a course of action. At this stage it is premature for me to make a commitment regarding funding for the project.
