Vol. 498 No. 5

Written Answers. - Western Development Commission.

Donal Moynihan

Question:

22 Mr. D. Moynihan asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if he will extend the terms of the Western Development Commission to include the north west Cork area. [27470/98]

The Western Development Commission was set up in response to proposals emerging from detailed analysis of the particular issues and needs of the western region. Successive Governments have decided that the commission wouId operate in the region as defined by counties Clare, Donegal, Mayo, Galway, Leitrim, Roscommon and Sligo. The Bill to establish the commission on a statutory basis has now been enacted and I do not propose to extend the remit of the Commission to include the north west Cork area.
