Vol. 498 No. 5

Written Answers. - Western Development Commission.

Brendan Daly

Question:

70 Mr. Daly asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if he will appoint a representative from County Clare to be a member of the Western Development Commission; when schemes and projects will be put in place for implementation by the commission; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [27679/98]

I will be making appointments to the board of the Western Development Commission shortly and I intend to ensure that the new board will be as representative as possible of all of the counties and the various interests in the region served by the commission.

In accordance with the requirements of the Western Development Commission Act, 1998, I will be making a ministerial order in the near future to establish formally the commission on a statutory basis. As from the operative date, the commission will have funding available to it under the Western Investment Fund for investment in projects in the region.
