Vol. 498 No. 5

Written Answers. - Western Fisheries Board.

Michael Ring

Question:

93 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources the funding available for the Western Fisheries Board for 1999; the plans, if any, he has to allocate funding towards this board; and if the part-time employees will be reemployed in 1999. [28095/98]

I presume that the Deputy is referring to the funding available under the tourism angling measure of the operational programme for tourism 1994-9 for the development of the western lakes.

I announced on 22 April 1998 a further round of investment approvals under the tourism angling measure for tourism angling projects throughout the country totalling £2 million. This included the final phase of the western lakes project which received a further £800,000, bringing to £2 million the total EU and State investment in this important project alone out of a total of almost £17 million available under the programme. It is a matter for the Western Regional Fisheries Board to complete the project within the very substantial funding made available for this development, including deciding on any necessary contract staffing needs.
