Written Answers. - Mortality Rates.

Deirdre Clune

Question:

623 Ms Clune asked the Minister for Health and Children the reason the mortality rate in Cork city was the highest in the country in each of the years 1992 and 1993; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [2103/99]

The annual reports on vital statistics compiled by the Central Statistics Office include both crude and standardised mortality rates for each province, county and county borough. Data for 1992 and 1993 which are reproduced in the table following do not indicate that the rate for Cork City was the highest in the country for either year.
