259 Mr. J. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the average success rate in driving tests; and if any comparative figures are available from other countries. [2487/99]
The national average success rate for all driving tests conducted in 1998 was 56.8 per cent. A breakdown of this figure by category is given in the table below. Comparative figures for Northern Ireland and Great Britain in respect of the 1997-1998 financial year are also included. Comparative figures from other countries are not centrally compiled and would, in most cases, not be directly comparable due to differing driver training and testing regimes.
