Written Answers - School Staffing.

Brian O'Shea

Question:

335 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for Education and Science the proposals, if any, he has to bring the upper age limit for the appointment of part-time classroom assistants by his Department into line with the Employment Equality Act, 1998; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [2440/99]

I am pleased to advise the Deputy that, in line with the Employment Equality Act, 1998, my Department is raising the upper age limit from 55 years to 65 years for part-time and full-time special needs assistant posts sanctioned with effect from 1 February, 1999.
