Vol. 499 No. 4

Written Answers. - Inland Fisheries.

Breeda Moynihan-Cronin

Question:

85 Mrs. B. Moynihan-Cronin asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources if he has made a decision on the request by concerned residents from Glenbeigh, County Kerry, with regard to the withdrawal of public funding of a private company to facilitate the fishing rights on the Caragh as discussed with him at a meeting prior to Christmas 1998; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [2903/99]

As I advised concerned parties when we met last December, the management committee of the tourism angling measure approved grant aid in September 1998 to a private sector applicant for the acquisition of the lower Caragh fishery, for tourism angling purposes. I also clarified the advice that grant aid approval was subject to satisfactory confirmation of title. I am advised by the Central Fisheries Board that investigation of title is still in the process of completion. Given local concerns I have requested the Central Fisheries Board to keep me fully advised of developments in this matter. I understand the situation is likely to be clarified shortly.
