Vol. 499 No. 5

Written Answers. - Special Criminal Court.

John Gormley

Question:

65 Mr. Gormley asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if he will report on any reviews, ongoing or planned, into the use of the Special Criminal Court for non-paramilitary cases; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [3026/99]

The Government is committed to keeping the question of the need for the Special Criminal Court under regular review. In 1997, following a Government decision, a procedure was instituted whereby it would decide, on an annual basis, on the continuing need for the Special Criminal Court. Following each such review the Government has decided that there is a continuing need for the court.
