Vol. 499 No. 5

Written Answers. - Hospital Accommodation.

Paul Bradford

Question:

89 Mr. Bradford asked the Minister for Health and Children if his attention has been drawn to the fact that there is an ongoing bed shortage at Mallow General Hospital, County Cork; and if he will ensure that sufficient funding is provided to allow the re-opening of extra beds at the hospital. [3139/99]

I am pleased to advise the Deputy that I have provided an additional £265,000 this year for the re-opening of beds in the refurbished medical ward at Mallow General Hospital. I understand that the Southern Health Board is in discussion with staff at Mallow General Hospital to arrange for the recruitment of the necessary nursing and support staff and that these beds will be opened as soon as possible.
