Vol. 500 No. 1

Written Answers - Replacement Industry.

Breeda Moynihan-Cronin

Question:

94 Mrs. B. Moynihan-Cronin asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment the progress, if any, made by her in securing a replacement industry for a factory (details supplied) in Killarney, County Kerry; if she expects to make an early announcement in this regard; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [3286/99]

The securing of a replacement industry for any area of the country is a day-to-day matter for the industrial development agencies and not one in which I have any direct function. Since the closure of Pretty Polly Limited a determined drive had been under way by IDA Ireland to find a replacement industry for the vacant factory. In the intervening period, over 30 site visits from overseas companies have been made to the site in Killarney. Some of these companies have visited the location on more than one occasion. IDA Ireland is in discussions with a potential client company concerning its interest in locating at the site.
