Vol. 500 No. 2

Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

Austin Deasy

Question:

89 Mr. Deasy asked the Minister for Education and Science if Waterpark College, Park Road, Waterford, will be granted approval to seek tenders for the provision of an urgently required extension; if this will proceed in 1999; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [1457/99]

In September 1998, the building unit of my Department advised the school authorities of Waterpark College that the stage 4 documentation – detailed design – for the proposed extension and refurbishment of this school had been approved. The school authorities were also asked to instruct their design team to proceed to stage five of the project, which is the final stage of planning before the invitation of tenders. The Department is currently examining the stage 5 submission.

This analysis is almost complete and my Department will shortly be in touch with the school authorities in the matter. While it is not possible to say when construction will commence, every effort will be made to ensure the process is completed as quickly as possible.
