Vol. 500 No. 2

Written Answers. - Student Support Schemes.

Jack Wall

Question:

94 Mr. Wall asked the Minister for Education and Science the position regarding the review of options for the future administration of the student support services; when this will be completed; if new procedures will be in place for the next academic year; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [3711/99]

My officials are participating in a joint working group with officials of the Department of Social, Community and Family Affairs which is undertaking a detailed review of the administration of the student support schemes. I have previously indicated that no irrevocable decisions will be taken in relation to any future arrangements without appropriate consultation with all interested parties. A date for completion of the work has not been identified and I understand that any new procedures will not be in place for the 1999-2000 academic year.
