Vol. 500 No. 3

Written Answers. - Millennium Projects.

Trevor Sargent

Question:

19 Mr. Sargent asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources if he will report on the progress on the Woodlands for Ireland Millennium Initiative; the extent, to which the wood based industries including tanning, charcoal production, furniture making, copsing and forestry have a place in this project; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [3821/99]

My Department, in conjunction with the Heritage Council and the National Parks and Wildlife Service, was involved in sponsoring the appointment of an overall project co-ordinator to the Woodlands of Ireland Millennium Group.

I understand that the project director recently completed an interim report for the group for submission to the Millennium Commission.

The contents of the project will be a matter for the commission to consider.
