Vol. 500 No. 4

Written Answers. - Educational Outreach Centres.

Jack Wall

Question:

376 Mr. Wall asked the Minister for Education and Science the plans, if any, he has to provide further outreach facilities to permit universities and regional technical colleges to have courses, etc., in towns not currently having these courses; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [4196/99]

The Higher Education Authority is currently examining the review report of the technical working group on outreach centres and a number of other studies in associated areas, such as the role of distance education in higher education. On completion of its examination, the Higher Education Authority will make the report available together with its recommendations on the matter. These recommendations will then be considered in the context of the ongoing review of third level provision nationally and the competing demands for resources.
